Google unveils Gemini Agent for work, including AI coworkers with their own email accounts
Google Cloud has introduced Gemini Agent, a workplace AI system designed to take a goal, carry out the work, and return a finished result. Announced by Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian at the company’s Gemini at Work event, the product runs across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Chat, and Calendar, while also connecting with Microsoft 365 and Slack. Google said the agent can keep running in the cloud even after a user closes their laptop, allowing tasks to continue for hours or days.
A central feature is what Google calls “coworker agents.” Managers can describe a role, such as an events coordinator, and Gemini will create an agent with its own Workspace identity, including an email address, calendar, Drive storage, and a listing in the company directory. Google also said the system connects with Salesforce, ServiceNow, Jira, Snowflake, BigQuery, and servers that support Model Context Protocol. The company added that Gemini can orchestrate work across both Gemini models and Anthropic’s Claude models.
Google said each agent receives a cryptographically attested identity, with actions logged in an audit trail. Agents run inside an Agent Sandbox and route traffic through Agent Gateway, which Google described as an “AI network firewall.” The company did not disclose pricing or a general availability date. Versions for financial services and legal are in preview, while government, healthcare, and retail are listed as coming soon.
